Core Features

Everything That Makes Beta Different

These aren't minor tweaks to the main game. Every one of these features is built specifically for the beta and tested by millions of players before Garena considers releasing them globally.

Exclusive
Weapons in Development
Every weapon in the live game went through the beta first. The Neon AR currently in v18.6 is only available here, and the way it handles — burst fire with a charge mechanic on the third shot — is unlike anything in the main game right now. Testers get to push these weapons to their limits and report back what works and what doesn't before they go global.
Exclusive
Map Zones Before They Go Live
The Abandoned Shipyard landed in the beta two patches ago. It's a completely new zone with tight corridors for close-quarters combat and a wide elevated platform that sniper players love. It's only accessible in the beta right now — the main game will get it once the team is happy with how it plays in real matches.
Exclusive Testing Now
Experimental Game Modes
Shadow Protocol — the current beta-only mode — drops all players into a night-time match with limited visibility and periodic flare drops that light up the zone for a few seconds. It's genuinely chaotic and very different from anything in the main game. Most of these modes start here, and the ones players enjoy most tend to graduate to the main game as limited-time events.
Preview Upcoming Skins
The beta store shows the next season's cosmetic collections weeks before they're available anywhere else. You can equip them, see how they look in-game, and provide feedback on the designs. Garena has actually revised skins based on beta tester feedback before — so what you report genuinely matters.
Beta Tester Rewards
Participating in beta testing and submitting feedback earns you exclusive rewards that can't be obtained in the main game. These include profile badges, limited cosmetics, and in some seasons, currency bundles that carry over to your main account when the update launches officially.
Characters

Meet the Beta Characters

These characters are currently only available in the FF Beta. Some will make it to the main game, some will be reworked, and a few will live exclusively in the beta as test subjects for new ability mechanics.

Legendary
Vega
Duelist
Activates a short speed burst and drops a decoy at her last position. Opponents who shoot the decoy trigger a flash effect that disrupts their aim for 1.5 seconds.
Epic
Rako
Defender
Deploys a portable barrier that absorbs up to 200 points of incoming damage before breaking. Allies crouching behind it take 20% reduced damage from all sources.
Epic
Syla
Scout
Passively reveals enemy footprint trails within 20m for 3 seconds after they move. Particularly powerful in buildings and close-range urban environments.
Rare
??? (Unrevealed)
Unknown Role
A fourth character is currently in development and not yet playable even in the beta. Early data files suggest a support-focused ability set — nothing confirmed yet.
Locked — coming in a future beta build
Weapons

Beta-Exclusive Arsenal

Every weapon below is currently only available in the FF Beta. Stats and mechanics are still being tuned based on player feedback, which means what you play with now might be slightly different when it launches officially.

Neon AR Assault Rifle
The Neon AR fires in controlled 3-round bursts. What makes it interesting is that the third bullet in every burst deals bonus damage — roughly 15% more than the first two. This rewards players who track their burst timing and punishes spray-and-pray approaches. It takes some getting used to, but once it clicks it's genuinely fun to use. Currently the most-tested weapon in the beta.

Pulse Shotgun Shotgun
A shotgun with a twist — the Pulse Shotgun fires a compressed energy blast that knocks back opponents slightly on hit in addition to dealing close-range damage. It's being tested as a way to create more positional gameplay in close-quarters situations, letting defenders create space rather than just trading damage.

EMP Launcher Special
This is an experimental support weapon. It fires an EMP projectile that disrupts opponent HUDs for 4 seconds on impact — temporarily hiding their health bar, ammo count, and mini-map from their view. It doesn't deal much direct damage, but the information denial it creates is significant and the team is watching how competitive players respond to it.

Game Modes

Modes You Can Only Play Here

These game modes don't exist in the live version of Free Fire. They're being tested in the beta to see how players respond before Garena decides whether to release them more broadly.

Shadow Protocol
Live Now
Every match takes place at night. Visibility is dramatically reduced and the only way to see across open areas is through periodic flare drops that light up a 30-meter radius for about eight seconds before burning out. Players who hear a flare deploy have to decide instantly whether to rush toward the light and pick off exposed enemies, or stay dark and use the chaos defensively. It creates a completely different pace compared to regular matches — slower, more deliberate, and genuinely tense.

Ranked Simulation
Live Now
This mode uses a completely redesigned ranked points system that Garena is testing for the next season of competitive play. The current live ranked system rewards kills heavily — this simulation shifts the balance toward placement, zone usage, and team coordination. Stats from this mode don't affect your real ranked standing, so it's a clean environment to see how the new system feels before it goes live.

Craft & Survive
Live Now
Ground loot is scarce in this mode. Instead, players collect raw materials from the environment — wood, metal, and electronic parts — and use them at crafting stations scattered around the map to build the equipment they need. You can craft medkits, ammo, weapons, and even temporary deployable cover. It changes the whole risk calculation around staying in one area to craft versus moving and looting on the go.

Blitz Royale
Coming Soon
A compressed version of the battle royale designed to wrap up in under 10 minutes. The safe zone starts small and shrinks rapidly — there's no time to camp and no time to loot slowly. Everyone lands with a basic loadout and the zone forces constant movement and engagement from the very first minute. It's been in development for a while and is nearly ready for its first beta test.

Skins for the AR, SMG, and shotgun slots. Custom hit-mark animations and a unique reload effect that pulses purple on the magazine swap. Currently being tested for frame rate impact on low-end devices.

Neon Glide — Parachute Skin
Parachute — Upcoming Season
A neon-lit parachute skin that leaves a colored light trail during the drop phase. Players in the lobby can see it from a distance, making it a strong visual statement even before the match starts.
Why Join

Why Serious Players Use the Beta

Most players think the beta is just for trying things early. But for players who follow the competitive scene, it's actually a real advantage.

Master Characters Before Launch
When Vega goes live in the main game, beta testers will have months of experience with her kit already. That's a meaningful head start in ranked play for anyone who takes the time to learn her properly in the beta.
Your Feedback Shapes the Game
Garena's team reads beta feedback reports. Balance changes, map adjustments, and weapon tweaks in the last few updates came directly from issues testers raised. It's one of the few ways a regular player can actually influence how the game develops.
No Risk to Your Main Account
The beta installs separately from your main game and runs under a different package name. Your main account, progress, and data are completely untouched regardless of what happens in the beta — and you can run both apps on the same device at the same time.
Earn Rewards for Testing
Beta testers who submit feedback through the in-game system earn exclusive rewards — badges, cosmetic items, and in some seasons, currency that transfers to the live game. The more thorough your feedback, the more rewards you accumulate over each beta cycle.
See What's Coming Next
The beta is essentially a preview of the next 1 to 2 game updates. If you follow the meta, knowing what characters, weapons, and map changes are coming gives you time to plan your loadout and strategy before everyone else is scrambling to adapt.
Join a Smaller, Serious Community
The beta player pool is smaller than the main game, which means matchmaking is tighter and you tend to play against people who are genuinely interested in the game rather than casual drop-ins. Many long-term beta testers end up knowing each other.

What Beta Testers Are Saying

Real feedback from players who have been running the FF Beta for at least one full version cycle.

"Shadow Protocol is honestly one of the most fun modes I've played in Free Fire in years. The flare mechanic completely changes how you think about positioning. I really hope it makes it to the live game."
RajendraSK
India — Beta since v17.2
"Vega's ability is something I've never seen in a battle royale before. The decoy mechanic feels like it takes real skill to use well, which is exactly what the character roster was missing. Glad they're testing it before pushing it live."
ZephyrXD
Brazil — Beta since v16.8
"The FPS improvements in v18.6 are real. My device was struggling with the squad drop lag since v18.0 and now it's completely gone. Installing this update was 100% worth it, the game feels stable in a way it hasn't for a while."
Ahmad_FF
Pakistan — Beta since v18.0
